The Chiang Rai Tea Cup
Inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Northern Thailand. Ji creates his teacups using a traditional slab building process. Made with stoneware clay and finished with natural glaze, the cup is perfect for both hot and cold beverages.
- Sold individually
- Size: 3.5 in X 3 in
- Ji recommends hand washing. Stoneware can tolerate both hot and cold, though can break if subjected to temperature change too quickly. Avoid freezing and microwaving.
From a young age Ji knew he wanted to do work that was creative and experimental. His father was a natural craftsman and while he didn’t pursue it as a career, he showed Ji how to make things and mix colors together. As a child, Ji could often be found making toys from pieces of wood or experimenting with materials and objects.
A perfectionist and reserved by nature, Ji regularly works twelve hours a day handcrafting uniquely designed ceramics. It takes him a minimum of one week to perfect a piece, however depending on the complexity of the design it could take up to three weeks to make his stoneware ceramics.
Ji draws his inspiration from the natural environment around his studio as well as the freedom clay provides to control the shape and design. One of his favorite parts of the process? Waiting to take his pieces from the kiln after the firing process - ‘you don’t always know how they are going to come out’.
