The art of silk weaving has been in the Piankusol family for over 200 years, the name is highly renowned for the best in Thai silk. It all began with one Chiang Mai woman’s fascination for the beauty of silk, before the luxurious fiber had the same notoriety that it does today. In order to make ends meet, she spent days walking to Burma, where she sold her silk, and brought back raw silk yarn. Her daughter later studied and mastered raw silk fabrication allowing the family to complete all stages of silk production.
The Piankusol family business survived through World War II, and now generations of Piankusol women continue to produce high quality mulberry silk, as well as other textiles and train countless women from neighboring villages the art of hand-weaving. They are known for combining quality fabric with exquisite and intricate patterns, as well as their natural dyeing process which lengthens the life of textiles. The family business hopes to increase the number of agricultural farmers in Thailand so they can continue producing more raw silk yarn to make beautiful silk products.
